DEWALT Racing’s Scott Pye improved from 18th to 12th in Race 3 of the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship at the Sandown SuperSprint.

Starting 18th, Pye dropped a couple of spots in the jostling on the opening lap before steadily climbing up the pack as he ran a longer opening stint to find some clean air.

Pye stopped with ten laps remaining and used his fresh-tyre gain to climb a further three spots to take the chequered flag in 12th position.

The DEWALT Racing Commodore returns to Sandown tomorrow for two ten-minute Qualifying sessions, followed by Races 4 and 5 of the championship at 1:30pm and 4:30pm respectively.

“It was a fun race, plenty of action out there,” said Scott Pye.

“The opening lap was pretty chaotic back there and unfortunately I picked the wrong line coming out of Turn 4 and there was an accident ahead and I lost a few spots in the freight-train, but we got those positions back and then moved up to 12th.

“The team did a great job with strategy. We got boxed up a couple of times behind cars but once they pitted we were able to truck on with decent speed and then came out later after our pit stop with a fresh tyre advantage and I had some fun overtaking a few cars at the end.

“It’s bittersweet, I would have loved to have had a bit more speed but we maximised what we had today and we’ll come back tomorrow after a debrief and we’ll tune up the driver for another go tomorrow.”
