DEWALT Racing’s Scott Pye got off to a strong start for Team 18 at the Townsville double-header, climbing from 15th to 9th in Race 19 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at the Townsville SuperSprint.

Starting 15th, Pye was one of the first runners to stop on Lap 9, pitting for two tyres and using the clean air advantage to jump up to sixth following the pit stop cycle.

The DEWALT Commodore dropped back to ninth as the late stoppers charged through, holding off Anton De Pasquale, Chris Pither and Team 18 stablemate Winterbottom in a tight finish.

The DEWALT Racing Commodore returns to action tomorrow with back-to-back qualifying from 10:40am. Race 20 will commence at 1:05pm and Race 21 from 3:40pm.

This weekend’s action can be live on Network 10 from 11:00am, with all sessions simulcast live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports.

“I’m stoked to come away with ninth today,” said Scott Pye.

“I think it was the best we could have hoped for after qualifying, I made some mistakes in Qualifying and we started the race in 15th.

“Our car speed was good and we were able to race through to ninth.

“The Team 18 crew made an awesome stop when we pitted early, and we were able to jump up the field and fight like mad to hang on at the end.

“I knocked off both mirrors which made defending much harder in that battle-pack late in the race.

“Phil [Keed] and I will debrief and look for more speed, we’re looking for more turn, but we will tune up the car and driver and aim to qualify somewhere in the top ten to put us in a good spot tomorrow.”
